Aspens Still Grow
When I was young, those who raised me said drastic change was now. My people were deer in the headlights. On one hand, so many farmers with a phone, migrants with education and running water. On the other, so much novelty all the time, growing from silver screens, transistors and pictures boxes. And then so many product launches and CD-ROMS.
Thanks to Sam Altman, Jony Ive is building his next big thing. It promises to be another game changer of that alternate reality – what Postman called Technopoly and MacLuhan called the Medium. It promises to shift us from screens that Ive mainstreamed in the first place. Perhaps it will get us a that much closer to emitting the dream-state light beams from our foreheads that NYNMA sought so many years ago.
What do we know? Behavior will change. It will be monetized. We will “surrender” and add an “extension” to our humanity. Moore’s Law is irresistible. For those caught in the seductive and addictive cycle and like its predecessors, it will promise so much.
Just remember though: the Aspens still grow. Out of their groves, truth stands tall. Best to be rooted in the earth. Wise to stay nimble in the weather that creates you. Prudent to communicate with your brothers and sisters to thrive. In the end, nothing outside of that is necessary. Only the dust from which you come. Only the Love about which you came here to learn.
